There's good and bad things about having my (well actually "the UC Regents'", not "my")
laptop in the shop. The good thing is that I am less distracted by the internet access,
chat, graphics, and other capabilities of the laptop. Also I'm not carrying around 5 extra pounds every
day. As part of my amazing Mac-free productive spree, I made the image above. It's
from a program that I will eventually use to deproject Jupiter images into Jupiter maps.
The bad thing is that if I want to update this page from work using the Sun workstation on
my desk, I can't use Netscape 7 (it bombs when I log in thru htaccess), so I am typing this
in Netscape 4.7.
Argh !! Fix my laptop and give it back !! !!

This is Ivan, our new cat. We adopted poor little 5-year old Ivan from an abusive home. That is, we adopted him from a home where he abused two people. After the incident, one of the victims was practically unable to speak intelligibly, and another had to go on antibiotics because of her wounds. He's quite a cat.
Earthquake relief.
Some kids at UM are making a really cool shirt that will be a free gift for donating a minimum of $10 to earthquake relief. It looks like Buzzz graphics. I was thinking of asking if I could get a bunch and re-distribute them, but I don't know if anyone would be interested. Email me if you would want to get one from me, and I'll contact them.
Overnight BART service.
BART will be running 24 hours this weekend to help move people during the complete westbound closure of the Bay Bridge. Crouton is in town, so I think we are going to go to a soju spot in Oakland and come back late just because we can. But Lake Merritt is the only downtown station open.
Safari and HTML.
Safari keeps surprising me with its text-editing features. If you're typing in a form text field (like I am now), you can use tcsh/emacs commands like ^u, ^e, ^a, ^k, ^p, and even ^y (yank). AND I just discovered that there is multiple text-editing undos. Also, I wonder if anyone uses the <center> tag in their HTML code any more. It's been deprecated, but it's so convenient, I just can't quit.

Hi. Daniel just got back from a long trip abroad for his lil bro's wedding. While he was gone he asked me to look for something in his picture drawer. I didn't find it, but I found this photo, the view out the window of his old place on the 44th floor of a Chicago apartment building. Good times.
Daniel claims he took the picture, but I think I took it. It's such a Mike Wong picture. And it is after all printed on matte paper, which I always request. I tagged the enlargement (click the image) so that it's suitable as a desktop background, or "wallpaper" if you will.
So much has happened since I stopped regularly posting. I went to England earlier this month for a conference, and exhausted the hospitality of Lindsey and Nick. And there was an incident with a tweeker with a hammer. Last night I just finished entering the new records I bought into my discogs.com list. I got the new A Guy Called Gerald album for £5 on 2LP vinyl.
I've been a bad son. I left town for another conference during the moon festival weekend, and I haven't even called my parents since I got back. They might have disowned me already and I wouldn't even know.
