the country is divided
Thu Jun 17 10:55:56 PDT 2004
I'm going back to DC next week for a visit. I hope I haven't missed all the cicadas.
I have to start making time for the internet again or something. I never post. But, I just HAD to post this quote from Rinpoche's lecture last Tuesday:
The country is, basically, divided into 50/50.
Pro-hatred, and anti-hatred.

Is anybody on discogs.com ?? I just spent several obsessive-compulsive hours last night adding records to my collection while I was working at the telescope. Its fun. But I wana see my friends' collections, those of you who have them. email me: mikewong at giardiacorp dot com.

That's Franck. He's a mad scientist. He's taking me up to
Mt. Hamilton
Wednesday thru Friday and we will destroy Mars with the
laser guide star adaptive optics system. Take that, Marvin the Martian.
No actually I think we're just gonna look at asteroids or something.
i gotta brag

omigod i have to brag. so much of goodness has been taking place.
but first heres a pic. dantewoo was up in my house
showing me that marcus is back online. his
site is sleek and beautiful. his design is
like... the essence of all tha's good in DC. i
could go on and on about what i think about it but
i would probably sound stupid cuz... uh... i'm
tired right now. anyways so i made this little red thing right after
seeing marcus' webpage. maybe you can use
the big version as a backdrop or something, its 1280x960 so
just deal. click the img to get the big one:
science wise, i re-submitted a paper (Wong et
al., 2004) on the composition of jupiter's
atmosphere based on galileo probe mass spectromter
measurements, a paper that has been straggling
along for years. if it gets past the refs a second
time, it will be published.
also this morning i discovered that i have been
granted time on the hubble space telescope !!
we're gonna get some pretty pix of jupiter, check
back in a year. so i get two orbits of the HST
(which works out to about 50 minutes total i
think). it's a small project, but it may not be
possible for much longer since this is infrared
and the cooling system might be the first to go if
there's no reservicing.
finally... i did some music stuff... some of you
have probably already heard some of these but
maybe not. there's few songs me and peter did for
rus' video, and the song i made for amy lam's
installation. these can be experienced at a new
site, giardiasound.net. it's
not fully together yet, but i have a complete lack
of professionalism so its ok.
